With 18 years of production, the Mercedes-Benz SL R107 is the longest-running series produced by Mercedes (after the G-Class) from 1971 to 1989. That says something about the success of the model. The R107 was the only available convertible from Mercedes at the time and available with different engines from a 2.8-liter 6-cylinder to a 5.6-liter V8. A nice detail of the car are the ribbed rear lights: these have been developed to prevent dirt and keep the lighting optimal. In terms of safety, the car was far ahead of its time: it is equipped with crumple zones and a reinforced windscreen that had to protect the occupants if it were to roll over.
